我的背景：PhD in CS，擅長開發，不擅長research，有一些paper，都不太強，也不算特別差。對research缺乏激情，所以選擇工業界。如果你的背景相差太遠，有些東西可能不適用，但是很多還是相通的。偶運氣還可以，第一個on site interview就給了offer，所以更多的是經驗，不太有教訓。題目就叫effective job hunting吧。側重interview。

I have a bibliography entry which is very long since I included its web address. Bibtex inserted some strange “%” signs. The solution is to insert some white spaces in the URL. I use the macro \url from url package and it will ignore the spaces anyway.

I am really tired of managing bookmarks. I use two Macs and at least two or three PCs, not to mention some PCs have dual or triple boot. It’s impossible to keep all the bookmark synced. Now I decided to move the bookmarks to del.icio.us. I wish I can find something that I can install on my own webserver that does the same thing for me. After all, it’d be a lot faster on a LAN.

I had to reinstall Yinan’s Windows box since we believe it was infected by viruses. She got a lot of bookmarks she doesn’t want to lose over a reinstallation. The best way is to have it point to a position out of the user profile by changing the registry:

在MITBBS的科大版看到一篇帖子，講科大的殺手們，感觸良多，看到熟悉的名字，又懷念起那些年少輕狂的日子。文中提到的不少人物都是舊相識了。作者應是9500/19的，我當年上近世代數的時候生病，所以推遲了兩年跟9500/19上，林老師教的，那個9519的牛mm的故事至今記憶尤新，現在還時常跟人講起，我總是以很自豪的口吻跟別人講，看我們系的mm們多么有個性。一直不知道那個mm叫什么名字，現在何處，只知道學號是9519003。其實很想結識該才女。

黃鎮也記得，算是老鄉。我是南昌的，他是宜春的。后來他在科大讀研，似乎是徐森林的學生，記得他跟我說林老師以前到美國講學，也不知道美國人怎么能聽懂他福建口音的英語。我畢業的時候或者是畢業后回科大的時候還碰見過黃鎮，當時他正要出國，跟我說，不要在國內浪費青春了。

孫老師的課我當時學得也膽戰心驚，仗著自己數學基礎還湊合，僥幸拿了85分。后來我到了軟件所，她去了研究生院。因為是必修課，所以盡管本科學了，還得學一遍。她到了北京估計是心情愉快了，或者是因為所裡給壓力了，總之，大家都高高興興拿90多分。所裡另外一同學，組合數學非必修課，但是准備選，他的導師告誡說，此孫老太太，是當年我在科大的師姐，為人據說很嚴謹，你要三思而后選啊。

李百浩給我們上課的時候據說教務處專門開了個會，跟他說，李老師，不能再抓那么多人了，補考教室不夠了。于是我們僥幸脫逃，只抓了倆，跟我們一起上的9307似乎被抓的也在個位數。

說起宋老師，我還是很欣賞的，至今記得一件很對不起他的事。某次感冒了，吃了些藥，犯困，結果上課還坐在了前排，快到中午實在撐不住，頭象雞啄米。不幸被宋老師看見，語重心長的對我說，這位同學，再堅持一會兒，馬上就下課了。一直沒有機會向宋老師解釋，其實不是課講得不好聽得睡著了。我上大學的宋老師課的時候中國足球尚未商業化，文中提到的都是后事了。

Whether wasn’t perfect this weekend so I stayed home watching the hurricane on CNN. Fortunately Dennis downgraded to Cat 3 at 120MPH. It looks like Emily is being born already.

Poor Florida, striked by Ivan last year and they are facing a worse one. It’s already a Cat 4 hurricane at over 130MPH. Hmm, we are much better off here on the west coast.
